When I was a young girl, during summer months, a lot of time was spent sitting on both the front and back porches of my McCllellan Street home. Because the property was a two family dwelling, the neighbor lady that rented the upstairs flat would come downstairs with two cups of coffee, one for my mother and one for herself, strawberry flavored kool-aid and Oreo cookies for us children, and spend the afternoon visiting.
My mother would call the time their back porch chit-chat. The conversation would range from who died to who was born; their children, husbands, shopping, soap operas and home remedies. I have picked up a few of my own here and there throughout the years, stashed them away and use them now and then. I thought, since the opportunity has risen, I’d share them here.
